Sunnyfield Estates and the surrounding Brooklyn Park area has so much to offer. We love the community, people, evening walks, the incredibly easy access to Baltimore and all major highways, and the overwhelming amount of restaurants and entertainment. The area has been a great place to raise our son as well.
Sunnyfield Estates is the friendliest, most welcoming place you could ever live. On our first day in the neighborhood, multiple neighbors stopped by to introduce themselves, deliver baked goods, and invite us over to their homes for BBQ and games. The neighborhood is also incredibly safe and offers a great little playground and many wonderful walking paths. When we purchased the property, we were drawn to the nice community, corner lot, screened-in porch, big fenced-in back yard with a pool, and big basement, in particular.
It has easy access to I-695, B/W Parkway, Ritchie Highway, and Baltimore. Although the town itself is small, almost everything is within a short drive. The Brooklyn Park Library is absolutely incredible, and the schools/faculty have given our son a great experience during our time here. The town is a very eclectic, wonderful place to live.
There are quite a lot of excellent restaurant options only a short drive away. Some of our favorites are Little India Cafe, G&M Crabcakes, Romano’s, Yama Sushi, First Watch, and Pappa’s. This doesn’t even take into account the quick access via Ritchie Highway to the Federal Hill district in Baltimore — which offers Nick’s Fish House, Abbey Burger Bistro, and the new Sagamore Distillery. Many grocery stores and other conveniences, such as: a brand-new Giant, Food Lion, Aldi, and Shop-Rite. In addition, there is a Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, and Wal-Mart close by for all of your big-box needs — and even the MVA is a quick, five-minute drive away.
Another thing that’s great is the Linthicum North Lightrail Station just a few minutes away — for those that would rather not deal with driving and parking in downtown Baltimore (especially on game days). We love outdoor activities and exploring. There are a number of parks nearby, including Thomas A. Dixon Observation Park (and BWI Trail), Fort Smallwood, Lake Waterford, and Jack Downs Park. The BWI Trail is one of the premier bicycling trails in the area and Fort Smallwood and Downs Park offer biking and walking access to the Chesapeake Bay. Sunnyfield Estates itself is a fantastic community to walk, run, or bike around as well.
Our family enjoys music, art, sports, and outdoor activities. The basement served as an excellent family room and “band room” where I began teaching our son the guitar. With quick access to Baltimore, there are plenty of places that we have enjoyed spending our time — to include: Maryland Science Center, National Aquarium, Ram’s Head Live, Port Discovery, Fells Point, Illusions Magic Bar, American Visionary Arts Museum, Museum of Industry, and Camden Yards.
Our utility costs at this home are lower than nearly all of our neighbors. We have a solar panel lease with Tesla for electricity — with BGE covering gas. The solar panels have saved us between $40-60 per month since installation in 2016 and have the added benefit of being more friendly to the environment.
