We love the town of Burtonsville! It has a great town center with a supermarket and several lively restaurants. There are several parks, walking and biking trails, and an active resident community. Every fall there is a Burtonsville parade and Halloween activities for the children. The local fire department volunteers a historic fire engine to drive Santa Claus around the neighborhoods. Several times a year there is a classic car show that takes place at the town center.
Our community has tons of amenities! We have an outdoor swimming pool, a clubhouse, and numerous playgrounds for the children. There are also three lakes stocked with fish and surrounded by walking/running trails. There is a free satellite parking lot for RVs and trailers. We love walking around the neighborhood with our daughter, taking bike rides, going to the pool and hanging out at the local restaurants.
Burtonsville features cuisines from around the world. The local Green Turtle is packed during happy hour. Our favorite is Zen Asian Grill — great sushi and a full menu (best shrimp egg rolls we’ve ever tried). There is one of the best authentic Cuban restaurants in the Baltimore-Washington area. There are Ethiopian, Afghani (kebabs), Tex-Mex and Indian restaurants. Squisito’s has a family dining setting and gourmet pizzas, pastas and subs. The great rivals — Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks are across the street from each other. Of course, there are several chain fast food joints and pizzerias such as Papa John’s and Dominos.
The local Giant is relatively new (was fully rebuilt a few years ago) and has a wide variety of food, including a large allergy conscious section. There are several small ethnic markets, a pet store and the Montgomery County Liquor and Wine store (great selection and prices).
In addition, there are several doctors, dentists and two urgent care facilities. The Laurel Regional Hospital is about 10 minutes away.
We were originally drawn to the area due to the proximity of the major highways — 29, 95, 32 and 200 (ICC) are all just minutes away. There are several Metro Bus stops within walking distance. Burtonsville is about 30 minutes from both Baltimore and Washington, DC, and only 15 minutes from the Mall in Columbia.
The Burtonsville area has tons of recreational activities. Fairland Regional Park has tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer, football and baseball fields as well as a large playground and picnic shelters. The park has a large wooded area that is popular with hikers, runners and mountain bikers because of its well-maintained trails. Close by are the Gardens Ice House (with year-around ice rinks for ice skating and hockey) and the Fairland Sports and Aquatic Complex (with an Olympic sized swimming pool, a gym, racquetball courts, gymnastics, yoga, indoor tennis courts, and lacrosse, soccer and baseball fields). Both organizations offer classes for children and adults. There is also a public 18-hole golf course designed to follow the natural topography of the land in the Scottish tradition. A few minutes away is Rocky Gorge Reservoir that is popular with kayakers.
