We love that Laurel has everything we need and is easily accessible to Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington D.C. With easy access to 295, 95, 32, and Route 1, the location is ideal for short commutes to work, visiting family and friends, and weekend outings.
The Maryland City neighborhood is great for families! Brock Bridge ES and Monarch Global Academy K-8 public charter school are located just outside the neighborhood. During the summer you can join the West Arundel Swim Club which is a short walk down the street.
Laurel has a great mix of family-owned restaurants and popular chains. You can find Mexican, Salvadoran, Peruvian, Japanese, Indian, Middle Eastern and Italian cuisine all within a 5-minute drive. There are also plenty of fast-casual favorites nearby such as Chipotle, Panera, and Noodles & Company. There is also a Dunkin’ Donuts to grab coffee on your way out to work (and a drive-through Starbucks is coming soon!).
There are plenty of grocery store options within a few miles, including Harris Teeter, Giant, Shoppers, Target, and a 24-hour Walmart.
We were drawn to the property because of the well-established, family-oriented, and quiet neighborhood. The home had great potential with a few renovations and updates, and most importantly — the location – was perfect for us!
This is an ideal area because it’s less than a 30 minute drive to D.C. or Baltimore. It’s just 15 minutes from great shopping, dining, and entertainment at Arundel Mills and 20 minutes from Columbia.
Aside from being a great place to live, the location in the Anne Arundel County portion of Laurel means it also has affordable property taxes compared to other areas.
We’ve enjoyed taking our dogs for walks around the neighborhood’s tree-lined streets and over to the park to play. On weekends it’s easy to get to baseball and football games in Baltimore and D.C. or attend concerts and festivals at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia.
Utility costs Our Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) costs are $150-$180 monthly, depending on the season. The water utilities bill through Anne Arundel County has been about $85 quarterly.
