I love that Baltimore has all the charm of a small town and all the convenience of a big city. Within 15 minutes, you can be at delicious restaurants or beautiful outdoor spaces like Gunpowder Falls. Creative Baltimoreans are quickly making Baltimore even better with recent additions like R.House or The Sandlot (cool new restaurant/hang out spots) that bring together diverse neighborhoods and build a stronger and friendlier community.
Our neighborhood is great because it has a cozy suburban feel with convenient access to the rest of Baltimore. The homes and gardens are beautiful and charming, so it is always relaxing to walk the dog around the block. The neighbors are super friendly, as well.
We love to have a weekend breakfast and reading session at Red Canoe. The owners and staff are so welcoming and the homemade food and Zeke’s coffee are delicious. They have also partnered with Batch Bake Shop, which has recently opened on Harford Road in the heart of Hamilton. Their pastries are incredible…try the almond croissant! For dinner, we typically visit Hamilton Tavern or Maggie’s Farm for great food and lots of drink options. We also love visiting Belvedere Square for Ramen at Ejji or sandwiches at Atwater’s.
There are several grocery stores nearby, including Safeway and Giant, and a choice of convenient gas stations on Harford Road, as well.
When I bought the property, I was drawn to the vintage charm. The light fixtures, the wood floors, and the cedar shingles are exactly the type of vintage details I was looking for. I also loved the front porch and could not wait to sit on the porch swing after a long day at work. I was attracted to the location because of the established neighborhood and the affordability.
The Hamilton/Lauraville area is wonderful because it has a ton of small businesses, a true family feel, and community events such as a Tuesday Farmer’s Market. Nearby Lake Montebello is a great place to walk or exercise. It has something for everyone.
I can’t forget to mention the local schools as well! Hamilton Elementary/Middle School is home to plenty of accelerated, advanced, and gifted learning opportunities and Garrett Heights is implementing Montessori programming, which is attracting plenty of local families. City Neighbors also operates a nearby charter school. As a Baltimore City Public Schools teacher, there are a lot of great public educational options in this area.
We enjoy hiking and are able to find great locations to do this off of Bel Air or Harford. We also enjoy doing DIY projects. Conveniently located Home Depot and Lowes helped turn our project visions into reality.
