This delightful ranch-style house has a genuine woodsy cottage feel, but inside its roomy and modern (vaulted ceiling in a spacious living room, jacks and outlets throughout, completely finished basement). A great floor plan with living space all on one floor! The master bed/bath is separated by the living room. An additional bath is located right between the other two large bedrooms. The basement matches the footprint, doubling the floor space. Don’t forget the attic, with space for added storage.
We loved helping mom take care of the place. I managed to mow the lawn easily even with a push mower. She loved trees, so we planted a sour cherry tree, golden tree, maple and more all around the sides and the back. I designed the recently renovated country-style kitchen/dinette with silestone countertops, a five-burner electric stove and double oven with microwave/fan built in above. Mom insisted we choose the plentiful and stunning natural wood cabinets. My sister cooked, baked and canned all the time. One spring we had about eight cherry pies baked from the freshly-picked cherries- what a treat! And mom loved strawberries- you’ll find a plot right off the “lanai,” as she dubbed the back porch.
Our back yard nestled along a wooded backyard, we’d sit outside on the porch under the Sun-Setter canopy and watch the hummingbirds and cardinals crowd the feeders. Throughout the year all kinds of birds visit, and occasionally you’ll hear a fox’s truly wild yelp. But this house helped us be sociable too- one year we entertained my daughter’s 45-member high school marching band in the finished basement. No lie! The two-car carport is so convenient, with room left to season wood for the working fireplace. The shed is a perfect place to store the grill in the winter, and seed and garden tools the rest of the year!
Naturally we love our pets: we had a small dog door to the lanai, and the back yard is perfectly fenced in so even the best escape artist can’t get out. Interestingly, we almost never used the front door. It opens right into an abundant evergreen that shields the house from the road, but its several steps above ground level. We found it easier to use the back door from the kitchen to the porch, just a few steps up from a curving herringbone brick sidewalk my brother and I expertly installed (if I say so myself!).
This perfect location lies within a quick 10-minute drive to several grocery stores, including the new Wegmans and Aldi’s, and plenty of services. We can walk to the best vet in Baltimore (Main Street Vet) right up Reisterstown Road, as well as mass transit (the Owings Mills terminus of the subway). Folks from nearby say they never even knew our community was back here – it is that private, right on the cusp between Owings Mills and Reisterstown. Our tiny Montgomery Road can only handle one width car at a time in our little cul-de-sac, so we have a built-in neighborhood watch! We literally know everyone in our neighborhood.
